Citizens can continue exchanging lev banknotes for euros at the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) and at the central banks of the 20 other eurozone countries until 2 March 2026. The daily limit is 2,000 levs per client or transaction, and no fees or commissions will apply.
The euro became Bulgaria’s official currency on 1 January, with payments in levs ending on 31 January. While the BNB will continue exchanging levs indefinitely, commercial banks and Bulgarian Posts will only offer the service until the end of June 2026.
Exchanges in other eurozone countries are conducted at the fixed rate of 1 euro = 1.95583 levs, allowing Bulgarians travelling or living abroad to convert their currency without loss.
