A yellow code warning for low temperatures and snowfall has been issued for Monday for almost the entire country, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology. The warning concerns daytime temperatures below zero and significant snowfall. It applies to nearly all regions, except Sofia City, Pernik, Kyustendil, and Blagoevgrad. Precipitation is expected to weaken and stop in the afternoon.

More than 1,200 snowplows treated road surfaces overnight, the Road Infrastructure Agency reported.

Traffic on road E-79 between Vidin and Montana is blocked at several locations due to accidents involving heavy trucks.

In the Smolyan region, all vehicles are required to use snow chains when crossing the Pamporovo and Prevala mountain passes.

Heavy goods vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers are prohibited from using the Prevala, Rozhen, and Pechinsko passes, as well as the Devin–Mihalkovo and Batak–Dospat roads. Traffic for heavy vehicles over 12 tons is restricted through the Troyan Pass.

Overnight, trucks were stranded on the Sub-Balkan road Sofia–Burgas in the area of the Koznitsa bridges near Klisura.

Due to accidents and snow clearing, traffic was temporarily halted on the Trakia motorway, as well as on the roads Ruse–Byala, Ardino–Kardzhali, Simitli–Razlog, Yundola–Razlog, and Gotse Delchev–Katuntsi via the Popovi Livadi pass.

Where necessary because of strong winds, snowdrifts, or poor visibility, traffic may be temporarily restricted until conditions improve and roads are cleared, the Road Infrastructure Agency warned.

In many settlements, power outages have occurred due to damaged cables. The Lesovo border crossing with Turkey has also been out of operation since 3:40 a.m. due to a power outage, the Border Police reported.
