The first drilling in the Khan Asparuh block in the Black Sea - “Vinekh-1” - did not find significant amounts of natural gas, Offshore Energy reports. The specialized publication refers to the Austrian-Romanian OMV Petrom and the Israeli NewMed Energy Balkan. The two companies work together in the block, which is part of the Bulgarian exclusive economic zone. At the end of January, Bulgarian Energy Holding became their partner and acquired 10% stake in the project.

“Vinekh-1” is about 200 km. east of Varna. The drilling ship Globetrotter I reached a depth of 3230 m. below sea level. “Insignificant” indicators of gas were found in the geological formations, which defines the well as “dry”. The second well in the block will be in the Krum zone and will begin in the coming weeks, with an estimated duration of about 2 months.
