Boutique wineries and amateur winemakers from across the country will compete in contests for the best wine at the upcoming “Trifoniada” festival on 14 February in Zlatograd. The programme includes tastings of wine from renowned wineries, festive music on the main square in the Old Town, and the traditional vine pruning ritual.
''Trifoniada is gaining increasing popularity both among visitors and wine producers'', Alexander Mitushev, manager of the Zlatograd Ethnographic Complex, told the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).
The competition will feature several categories for boutique wineries and homemade wine. For the first time, an award for pelin wine will be introduced, which is to be presented by the event’s sommelier.
Wine connoisseurs from the neighbouring region of Greece are also expected to attend the festival. Visitors to Trifoniada will have the opportunity to sample wines and traditional appetizers free of charge.
