The
XXV Winter Olympics open in the evening of February 6 in Italy.
The official ceremony begins at 9 p.m. at San Siro stadium in
Milan. Smaller openings will be held in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Livigno
and Predazzo, which host competitions in some of the disciplines.
Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova is among the officially invited
statespersons for the Olympic flame lighting ceremony.
Bulgaria
is represented by 20 athletes in 6 disciplines. The flag-bearer of
the delegation in Milan is figure skater Alexandra Feigin and in
Cortina, the national flag will be carried by biathlete Vladimir
Iliev.
The
country has 8 competitors in biathlon and 4 in snowboarding. in
cross-country skiing and alpine skiing there are 3 Bulgarian quotas.
There is one representative in women's figure skating and one in
men's ski jumping.
Bulgarian
participation begins on Sunday, February 8, with the qualifications
for the parallel giant slalom in alpine snowboarding.
