Fifty actors from the Ivan Vazov National Theatre in Sofia auditioned for Swedish director Linus Tunström for his staging of Fanny and Alexander, based on Ingmar Bergman’s work. The production is scheduled to be performed at the National theatre next season.
One of Bergman’s most iconic creations, Fanny and Alexander is known both for its 1982 film version, which won four Academy Awards, and for numerous theatrical interpretations around the world.

“All the actors were incredibly generous, throwing themselves boldly into the tasks and working with humour, passion, and dedication. They tried different approaches and gave me immense inspiration. I leave here feeling very inspired and eager to continue our work,” Tunström said, as reported by BGNES.
Tunström is one of Sweden’s most renowned contemporary directors, with an extensive career in theatre, film, and opera.
