The Bulgarian Army is receiving new weapons according to NATO standards. This was the written response of outgoing Minister of Defense, Atanas Zapryanov, to a question from MP Dimcho Dimchev.
After
an analysis, the need for new weapons has been prioritized. Priority
was given to the Land Forces and the Special Operations Forces. New
systems were adopted there and the existing Russian ones were
replaced with new ones, with a caliber according to NATO standards,
Zapryanov replied. He pointed out that the process is irreversible
and the completion time depends entirely on the allocated finances.
The
modernization of the Bulgarian Army has not stopped, but the funds
for 2026 for payment of current projects have not been provided in
the extended budget, the minister warns.
