Hristo Iliev set a new Bulgarian national record in the 60m sprint. He finished second in the heats at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold with a time of 6.54 seconds, becoming the fastest Bulgarian of all time indoors, Sportal.bg reports.

Hristo Iliev improved the long-standing record of 6.58 seconds set by Petar Petrov back in 1978 by four hundredths of a second. In the final, the 21-year-old athlete, coached by Valya Demireva, placed fourth with 6.66 seconds, meeting the qualifying standard for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń in March.

Another Bulgarian also set a national record in Belgrade. Bozhidar Saraboyukov achieved 8.45 meters in the long jump and now ranks first in the world.

“Two Bulgarian national records in just two hours at the indoor arena in Belgrade — outstanding achievements by these two young men, and I am more than proud to personally congratulate them on their accomplishments”, said Bulgarian Athletics Federation President Georgi Pavlov, as quoted by BTA.
