Bulgaria's Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is organising a five-day cultural programme focusing on the country's intangible cultural heritage for young foreign scholars of Bulgarian Studies.

Taking place from 2–6 July 2026, the programme is part of the National Scientific Programme “Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Studies Abroad” and is open to up to five students, doctoral candidates and early-career researchers studying Bulgarian language and culture.

Participants will explore elements of Bulgarian culture inscribed on UNESCO’s intangible heritage lists, such as the Bistritsa Babi polyphonic singing tradition, the Surva festival, and the Chiprovtsi carpet weaving tradition. They will also have the opportunity to meet heritage practitioners.
