NSI: Salaries up 11% year-on-year, but unevenly across regions and sectors

In the fourth quarter of 2025 the average salary in Bulgaria was €1,369, NSI data shows. While the average salary has grown by 11% over the year, there are significant differences in pay across regions and sectors.

Incomes are highest in Sofia, far exceeding those in all other regions. At the end of 2025, the average salary in Sofia was €1,914.

Other regions with higher incomes include Vratsa (€1,301), Varna (€1,284) and Sofia Province (€1,296).
At the other end of the scale is Vidin, where the average salary is €932. Incomes are also lower in Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad and Montana.

According to the Employment Agency, unemployment in the country was 5.4% in January 2026, which is among the lowest in the EU. Compared to the same month in 2025, this figure had decreased by 0.17 percentage points.
