A written question on measures against violence and hate speech against the Bulgarian ethnic community in North Macedonia has been submitted to the Council of Europe. The document is addressed to the Committee of Ministers and was registered on February 17, 2026, BGNES reported. The text was signed by Denitsa Sacheva, Bulgaria's representative in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe - PACE.

After listing specific cases and practices in North Macedonia over the past 3 years, the document asks the Committee of Ministers two questions: Is it ready to call on the authorities in Skopje to adopt comprehensive measures to limit violence against the Bulgarian community and to actively combat hate speech and hate crimes against Bulgarians? The second question is about the steps that would be taken in this direction.
