Bulgaria is among the fastest growing economies in the EU with growth
of 3% in 2025 and this will continue in 2026. This was said in Sofia
by Joanna Hoey, editor of the annual
Democracy Index at
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), during the conference of The
Economist magazine in Sofia, BTA reports.
Hoey identified
private consumption as engine of growth, combined with external
demand and the forecast for a solid increase in the interest of
foreign investors in Bulgaria and the Balkans, related to the process
of shortening supply chains.
Hoey also pointed
out the challenges that the country faces. The declining population
and demographics will give rise to fiscal challenges. More investment
is needed in infrastructure, the environment and renewable energy
sources, the researcher adds.
