Bulgarian National Television (BNT) will be headed by a new Director General after seven years under the same management. Journalist Milena Milotinova was elected to the post by the Council for Electronic Media (CEM), Bulgaria’s broadcast regulator.
Ms Milotinova received the support of three of the five CEM members: Gabriela Naplatanova, Kadrinka Kadrinova, and CEM Chair Simona Veleva. The other two members, Prolet Velkova and Galina Georgieva, voted for Nevena Andonova and the current BNT Director General, Emil Koshlukov, respectively.
Milotinova holds degrees in Bulgarian Philology and English Language and Literature from Sofia University, as well as a Master’s in Journalism from its Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication.
She began her career at BNT in 1990 as a reporter and later completed professional training with international broadcasters, including the BBC and NBC. She has produced documentary films and has experience in both journalism and public service.
Between 2001 and 2005, she served as a Member of Parliament, chairing the parliamentary media committee. More recently, she has presented the current affairs programme Brussels 1 on the private television channel Bulgaria On Air.
Her appointment follows a prolonged selection process delayed by legal disputes.
