The European Commission has announced that the Provadia–Solnitsata prehistoric archaeological complex has been awarded the European Heritage Label (EHL) for 2025. The Bulgarian site is one of 13 new recipients of the label, bringing the total number to 80, according to a report by BTA.

The EHL is a unique Creative Europe initiative that promotes a shared understanding of European history based on fundamental rights, democratic values, and pluralism. It is awarded to sites that have had a profound impact on the history, culture and development of the European Union. The label will be presented at a ceremony on 22 April in Brussels, attended by European Commissioner Glenn Micaleff.

The prehistoric complex is located near the town of Provadia in north-eastern Bulgaria and is the oldest salt production centre in Europe (5600–4350 BC) and the first prehistoric urban centre on the continent (4700–4350 BC).
