A charity concert entitled Baba Marta will take place at 2 p.m. on 1 March at the Do Fontana café in Bolhrad, Ukraine. The announcement was made by the Centre for Culture and Recreation of the Bolhrad City Council on its Facebook page, as quoted by BTA.
The event is dedicated to the traditional Bulgarian holiday of Baba Marta, celebrated on 1 March. The holiday marks the arrival of spring and is associated with wishes for health and renewal, as well as the exchange of red-and-white martenitsas. It forms part of the cultural heritage of the Bulgarian community in the region.
The programme will include performances by musicians from the village of Tabaki and artists from the Bolhrad municipality.
The event is a charity initiative, with funds to be used to support Ukrainian military personnel.
Bolhrad was founded in 1821 by Bulgarian settlers and is regarded as the unofficial capital of the Bessarabian Bulgarians.
