The College of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) has found the Bulgarian European Prosecutor guilty of serious misconduct, BNR correspondent Angelina Piskova has reported.

The name of the prosecutor in question is not disclosed, but this is likely to be Teodora Georgieva. Due to the seriousness of the violations found and the high level of responsibility that the position carries, she could be dismissed from her position.
European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kövesi has already informed the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission of the college’s decision.

According to the existing regulation, only the European Court of Justice can dismiss a European Prosecutor in the event of a serious misconduct at the request of the European Parliament, the Council of the EU or the European Commission. Teodora Georgieva remains temporarily suspended from office until the final decision of the competent institutions.

“What does serious misconduct mean? Is there political influence from certain figures? And in the end, isn’t it important to know exactly what happened?” the Bulgarian European Prosecutor told bTV. She added that five judges from the Court of Justice had stated that there was no violation, but a reason to impose a remark.

Caretaker Minister of Justice, Andrey Yankulov, described the case as another serious blow to the image of the Bulgarian justice system. According to him, this gives reason to believe that more should have been done to unravel the networks of parallel justice in Bulgaria.
