Young people in Bulgaria feel insecure. Their biggest concerns are poor healthcare and the possibility of a military conflict. Girls are more concerned than boys, said Lea Vajsova, a sociologist at Sofia University, during the presentation of a study by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and IPSOS conducted in 2024 in 12 countries in Southeast Europe.

Girls are concerned about becoming victims of domestic violence or being attacked in public. Young people primarily want to have children and plan parenthood. The difference is that girls expect to complete higher education before that, Vajsova added.

Ass for values, young people place human rights, security, and economic well-being at the top. Boys place greater emphasis on democracy and the rule of law, but under certain conditions they would support a strong leader and sacrifice some civil liberties for a higher standard of living. The study also registered weak interest in politics among young people.
