The political formation with which former president Rumen Radev will take part in the upcoming early parliamentary elections on April 19 has registered for participation. The coalition, named “Progressive Bulgaria”, consists of three parties: Political Movement Social Democrats, the Social Democratic Party, and the Our People Movement.
On January 19, Rumen Radev submitted his resignation as President of Bulgaria, and after it was approved by the Constitutional Court, the post of head of state was assumed by Iliana Iotova.
Today, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, led by Delyan Peevski, and “BSP – United Left” also submitted their registration documents to the Central Election Commission.
The civic movement “Siyanie” led by Nikolay Popov—father of 12-year-old Siyana, whose tragic death in a traffic accident sparked a series of protests across the country—is also collecting signatures to run in the April 19 elections. The movement will participate in coalition with VOLT Bulgaria and Society for a New Bulgaria. Its registration with the Central Election Commission is scheduled for March 3, BNR’s “Horizont” channel reported.
