Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Bulgaria on March 3. “On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Bulgaria on your National Day. Today, we join you in celebrating 148 years since Bulgaria’s liberation. As trusted Allies, the United States and Bulgaria share a deep commitment to peace, security, and prosperity. Our close defense cooperation is enhancing capabilities to defend Bulgaria and NATO’s Eastern Flank. Bilateral collaboration in the energy sector is bolstering the energy security of the Black Sea region and facilitating new investment, economic partnerships, and prosperity in both our nations. We welcome Bulgaria’s leadership on the Board of Peace and look forward to deepening our partnership to build on shared goals in the year ahead”, the congratulatory message stated.
Earlier, caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nadezhda Neynsky and US Charge d'Affaires H. Martin McDowell discussed the situation in the Middle East and Iran. The focus was on security guarantees for Europe in the event of an escalation of the conflict, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
Minister Neynsky also raised the issue of lifting the visa requirement for Bulgarians visiting the United States. Both sides expressed a joint commitment to strengthening cooperation in technology, defense, and energy.
