Polar explorer Prof. Hristo Pimpirev awarded Konstantin Katzarov prize in Geneva

The Bulgarian Antarctic Institute announced that Prof. Hristo Pimpirev received the Konstantin Katzarov Prize at a ceremony held in the auditorium of the University of Geneva. The award was granted by a jury from the Swiss Katzarovi Foundation.
The ceremony was opened by Sébastien Castelltort, Vice-Rector of the University of Geneva. A video presentation highlighted Prof. Pimpirev’s work as a scientist and polar researcher.

Prof. Pimpirev then gave a presentation titled 'The Evolution of the Antarctic Continent and the Revolution of the Bulgarian Presence', in which he spoke about the continent’s tectonic development and the work of Bulgarian researchers in Antarctica.
Pimpirev, a specialist in historical geology and palaeogeography, is an honorary professor at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and founder of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute. He has led Bulgaria’s annual scientific expeditions to Antarctica for more than three decades.
Those in attendance included Bulgaria’s Ambassador, Svetlan Stoev; the country’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Angel Bandjov; officials from the World Meteorological Organization; representatives of the Swiss Polar Institute; and members of the academic community, students, and Bulgarians living in Geneva.
