Bulgaria has won its first gold medal at the Virtus Indoor Athletics World Championships for athletes with intellectual impairments, which are currently taking place in Ourense, Spain.
Aleksandar Asenov claimed the title in the shot put with a throw of 8.64 metres. Asenov represents Bulgaria’s Federation of Adapted Physical Activity FAPA-BULGARIA, led by its president Slav Petkov.

Another Bulgarian competitor, Boyan Vandov, finished fifth in the same event with a throw of 6.68 metres.
Alexandar Asenov, who also holds a European record, will compete in the 60 m sprint, long jump and triathlon, while Vandov is entered in the 60 m and 200 m.
Athlete Viktor Karadzhov is set to compete for medals in the 400m, 800m and 1500m races.
