Bulgaria's Caretaker Energy Minister Traycho Traykov said he sees opportunities to renegotiate the terms of Bulgaria’s agreement with BOTAŞ, he told bTV.

The minister recalled that at the time the contract was signed, Bulgaria needed access to Turkey’s gas transmission capacity.

“The idea is good, but the way the agreement was structured makes it absolutely meaningless from a price perspective,” he stressed.

He also pointed out that Bulgaria has not been paying its obligations under the contract, which amount to about $500,000 per day.

“I see an opportunity to propose an option that would benefit both sides,” Traykov added, noting that he had discussed the issue a few days earlier with Turkey’s deputy energy minister.
