Bulgarian PM holds energy talks with European leaders in Paris

Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov attended the Second Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris today. On the sidelines of the forum, he held a series of meetings with European leaders to discuss energy security, European funding and regional stability.

In talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Gyurov said the caretaker government was working actively to implement measures under the Recovery and Resilience Plan in preparation for submitting a request for the programme’s fourth payment.

During a meeting with the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Mr Gyurov discussed regional security and measures to counter rising fuel prices amid tensions in the Middle East. He also thanked Greece for its readiness to assist with air defence.

At a leaders’ meeting hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on the European approach to nuclear energy and electricity networks, Gyurov highlighted the importance of expanding electricity networks and the strategic role of nuclear power.

He noted that Bulgaria plans to build new nuclear capacity using AP1000 reactors and is also exploring the potential of small modular reactors (SMRs).
