More than 2,600 Bulgarians have been evacuated from the Middle East

More than 2,600 Bulgarians have been evacuated from the Middle East region, said caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nadezhda Neynski at a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the escalation of the security situation in the Middle East, BTA has reported.

At around 7 p.m. Bulgarian time today, a plane takes off from Riyadh to Sofia with about 170 passengers on board - evacuated Bulgarians from Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Neynski pointed out that this is the largest operation to date to evacuate Bulgarian citizens from 11 countries. Bulgaria has received assistance from Austria, USA, Turkey, Portugal and Hungary. There have also been offers from Greece.

Bulgaria has also helped citizens of Latvia, the USA, Romania, Germany, France, Poland, Sweden and Austria, who are in the zone of active military operations, Nova TV has reported.

The United States launched a joint offensive with Israel against Iran on February 28. In response, Tehran attacked Israeli territory and American military bases in Persian Gulf countries.
