A public procurement procedure for the repair of up to ten engines for MiG-29 fighter jets has been canceled because no applications for participation were submitted. This was stated in a decision by the caretaker Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov, published in the Public Procurement Register.
The tender, worth just over €21 million, was announced by the Ministry of Defence of Bulgaria at the beginning of February.
Although Bulgaria has had eight new F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft for nearly a year, the MiG-29s remain the primary aircraft used to carry out airspace protection missions for both NATO and Bulgaria. They are expected to continue fulfilling this role until the F-16s reach full operational readiness in 2028.
