The Bulgarian community in Detroit, Michigan, United States, is raising funds to purchase a building for a future Bulgarian Cultural Center, which will serve as a permanent place for community and cultural activities.
So far, $7,834.65 has been raised, which is about 2% of the target amount of $400,000, according to the Bulgarian Newspaper of Detroit.
Funds have also been received through a corporate matching gifts program, in which employers match the donations made by their employees. Participants in the campaign include Marinela Zgurov, Neli Apostolova, Kostadin Shalev, Petar Barbov, Veronika Lefterova, Maksim Kokushkin, and an anonymous donor whose contributions were doubled by the company General Motors, where they work.
The organizers are calling on Bulgarians in the state of Michigan to support the initiative.
According to the initiators, owning a building would provide space for cultural events, meetings, and educational activities for the Bulgarian community in the region.
