Bulgarian export declines, import rises

In 2025, exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 3.8% compared to 2024 and amounted to 27,550.4 million euros. The country's main trading partners are Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece and France, which account for 63.8% of exports to the EU, according to NSI data. Imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU in 2025 increased by 4.5% compared to 2024 and amounted to 30,952.85 million euros. The largest share of imports came from Germany, Romania, Greece, Italy and Poland.

In January 2026, exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 9.0% compared to the same month in 2025 and amounted to EUR 1,012.6 million. The main trading partners are Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, Serbia, the Republic of North Macedonia, Ukraine and Algeria, accounting for 47.4% of exports to third countries. Imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries in January 2026 increased by 5.3% compared to January 2025 and amounted to EUR 2,044.5 million. The largest volume of goods was imported from Turkey, China, Brazil and Ukraine.
