A concert marking the 25th anniversary of Divi Zheni, the women’s folk choir and orchestra based in Boston, Massachusetts, will take place on Saturday, 21 March. The event is scheduled from 7.30 pm to 11.00 pm local time at Payson Park Church (365 Belmont Street, Belmont, MA 02478), near Boston. The information was reported by BTA, citing a Facebook post by the ensemble and the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York. The choir and orchestra were founded by Tatyana Sarbinska.
“Join us for an evening of musical performances, lively Balkan dancing, communal singing, a folk bazaar and delicious refreshments,” Divi Zheni (Wild Women) writes in its invitation.
The life and work of the Bulgarian folk singer Tatyana Sarbinska are the subject of the documentary A Voice from God. Sarbinska is the creator of the song Katerino Mome, a long-serving member of the faculty at the Boston Conservatory, and an inspiration to generations of American musicians. On 24 May 2020, she was awarded the Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Collar, by the President of Bulgaria, as previously reported by the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington.
