All consignments of large and small ruminants, other cloven-hoofed animals, and pigs crossing the southern border will be subject to mandatory disease inspections. The measure has been introduced by order of the Director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, Dr. Angel Mavrovski, following outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus and Sheep Pox in Greece, the Agency’s press office reported.
Border inspections will be carried out at designated official veterinary control points and will include clinical examinations, document checks, and, where necessary, the collection of samples.
Clinical surveillance in farms raising animals at risk of these diseases is also being intensified. Priority regions include Blagoevgrad Province, Smolyan Province, Kardzhali Province, and Haskovo Province, as well as municipalities along key transport routes from Greece into the interior of the country.
