Early this morning, 19 rescuers – veterinarians and climbers, led by veterinarian Dr. Rusko Petrov from the Thrace University and the Wildlife Rescue Center at "Green Balkans" – Stara Zagora, climbed the steep Monyak Peak above the "Studen Kladenets" dam to save 2 female sheep and a lamb, stranded for over 20 days on a narrow, inaccessible platform in the rocks. The animals were grazing when they were chased by a dog. They fell from a great height and despite attempts by local people to get them out, they remained trapped, BNR correspondent in Kardzhali, Valya Apostolova, reported.

The lamb's mother was pulled out first, secured with ropes and belts and pulled to the top by volunteers. About an hour later, the lamb was also brought to the top.

The rescue operation ended successfully for two of the animals, despite the extremely difficult conditions and the risk for the participants. Unfortunately, the third animal jumped into the abyss.
