Caretaker Minister of Energy Traycho Traykov said that the government had a plan for the development of the strategic coal complex Maritsa East in the conditions of the energy transition, in which economic activities would continue and the energy sector would retain its ability to respond in need. According to him, the capacities in the complex can provide services for the electricity system.

The statement was made at the National Conference "Transformation of the Labour Market in the Conditions of Low-Carbon Transition", organized by CITUB, BGNES reports.

About 60 million euros have been allocated under the Regional Development Program 2021–2027 for the three coal regions - Stara Zagora, Kyustendil and Pernik. The funds are for retraining, access to the labor market and support for new business initiatives.
