Women make up 30% of parliamentary candidates

Of the 4,786 candidates, only 1,439 are women, said Rositsa Mateva, the deputy chair of the Central Election Commission

A total of 4,786 candidates for members of parliament will participate in the early parliamentary elections on April 19, announced Rositsa Mateva, deputy chair and spokesperson of the Central Election Commission, at a briefing. Of these, 3,347 are men and 1,439 are women.

All 24 parties and coalitions admitted to the election have registered candidate lists in all constituencies.

Applications to vote abroad are still being accepted. As of 13:30 today, 32,314 voters had expressed their intention to vote in the election.

The Central Election Commission will announce the number of polling stations and voting locations abroad by 28 March. Meanwhile, the commission is awaiting proposals from diplomatic missions.

According to Rositsa Mateva, preparations for the elections are proceeding as expected.
