US envoys discuss in Sofia the gas corridor to Ukraine

Caretaker Minister of Energy Traycho Traykov met with Joshua Volz, Special Envoy for Global Energy Integration at the US Department of Energy, and Arlene Fetizanan, Director of the Department of Energy Regional Office, the ministry reported.

The development of the Vertical Gas Corridor, which is proving to be key to Europe's long-term energy security, was discussed. The potential for more effective use of the existing infrastructure in Bulgaria was discussed. The US confirmed its readiness to support the infrastructure development of the corridor as a reliable and flexible platform for natural gas supplies, including to Ukraine. Bulgaria's leading role in extending routes 1, 2 and 3 to Ukraine, which is especially important in times of crisis, was pointed out, the Ministry of Energy said.
