In Bulgaria, the “First Day of Spring” refers to the date of the spring equinox, when the length of the day equals that of the night. In 2026, astronomical spring in Bulgaria began on March 20 at 4:45 PM local time, prompting a number of cultural and social events across the country.
Students from the largest sports organization at the American University in Bulgaria - AUBG Olympics - are donating the proceeds from their football match, scheduled for the first day of spring, March 21, to children with Down syndrome. The charity event, held at Hristo Botev Stadium in Blagoevgrad, is under the motto “All Under One Sun.”
It takes place during the month dedicated to the International Day of People with Down Syndrome and supports the “Sunny Children” Foundation, established by singer Krisko.

As a sign of solidarity with the cause, and with the support of the Bulgarian Football Union, veteran players from the football clubs CSKA and Pirin will return to the field.
The mission of AUBG Olympics is to promote an active and healthy lifestyle among young people through sports events organized throughout the academic year. The largest of these is the “D-Day” Olympics - the biggest student sports competition in the country, bringing together over 1,000 participants.
The football match on March 21 promises not only excitement on the field but also a rich program of entertainment, musical performances, and opportunities to meet prominent personalities.
