We are worried because we do not know what the final outcome of the situation will be, Bulgaria's caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov told Euronews about the conflict in the Middle East. Europe must speak with one voice and try to be at the negotiating table to see what can be done to contain the conflict and how this will affect supply chains, energy and prices, the Bulgarian prime minister stressed.
Asked about US President Donald Trump’s dissatisfaction that NATO and European allies do not want to participate in the military operation against Iran, Gyurov said that he does not currently see the EU directly engaging in the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, he stressed that Europe and America are long-standing allies and that Europe always stands by its allies and partners. The prime minister said that in his opinion the right path is to return to the negotiating table and discuss among partners how the war in the Middle East can be ended.
In response to a question about whether he believes there is a diplomatic solution to the conflict in the Middle East, given the position of the US and Israel that the Iranian regime is terrorist, Gyurov said that one thing is clear - that the Iranian ballistic program and its nuclear enrichment program must be put to an end to. The Prime Minister pointed out that there are different ways to achieve this goal and that sometimes different diplomatic approaches work well.
In response to a question about whether he thinks it was a good idea for Bulgaria to join the Peace Council initiated by Donald Trump, Gyurov said that the treaty has not been ratified and Bulgaria is not yet a party to the agreement.
