For more than fifteen years, Mihaela Fileva has carved out her own lane with quiet confidence, building a distinctive presence on the Bulgarian music scene. Lately, her creative scope has widened beyond recording to include musical theatre — both on stage and behind the scenes. She is one of the writers of the new Bulgarian production The Secret of Music, which is set to be performed on 24 and 25 April at the Azaryan Theatre — a natural extension of her work as a creator, performer and pop artist.

Her latest single, ‘A Storm in a Teacup’, is an introspective piece addressing anxiety and the often invisible weight of inner fears — territory she knows first-hand. Acting as both composer and lyricist, Fileva entered the studio with a clear vision, collaborating with Angel Prodanov (Acho) to create a track balancing raw emotional honesty with a polished, modern sound.

Both the song and its video capture the disorientation of challenging times, encapsulating it in a simple yet powerful refrain: ‘This too shall pass.’ It’s a phrase that Fileva has held onto for a long time, both personally and when supporting others.

She admits that she initially hesitated before releasing such a personal track.

“This song is like a warm embrace for anyone who is currently in a dark place. While music is not a form of therapy, it can certainly offer a helping hand. I didn’t write this song to share my story or seek support — that chapter is well and truly closed. Quite the opposite — as a public figure, I wanted to say: ‘Hey, you are not alone. These things happen to me, and they happen to everyone. They’re normal; there’s nothing to be afraid of. There is light on the other side.’ We worked very hard to ensure the song conveys the strength needed to get through difficult times.”

The track will receive its live debut on 5 April in Sofia, reimagined with a broader, more expansive sound. Fileva will be joined by her long-standing band — Aleksandar Obretenov (bass), Vasil Krumov (guitar), Vasil Vutev (drums), and Krasi Todorov (keyboards and programming) — as she embraces electronic textures and a more layered, large-scale sonic direction.
