Bulgaria has designated two approximately 300-year-old trees as protected, the environment ministry said.
One of the trees is a Hungarian oak (Quercus frainetto), located in the Gyuneta area near the village of Kazak in Haskovo region. It has a trunk circumference of 4.8 metres and stands about 11 metres tall.
The second is a Turkey oak (Quercus cerris), found in the Kairaka area near the village of Gorski Izvor, also in Haskovo region. It has a trunk circumference of 3.9 metres and a height of around 15 metres.
With the addition of the two trees, a total of 2,403 century-old trees are now listed in Bulgaria’s biodiversity register.
