Foreign Ministry sets up mechanism to counter disinformation and hybrid threats

By order of caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nadezhda Neynski, a temporary coordination mechanism will operate within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to counter disinformation, combat hybrid threats, and maintain information resilience. This comes in response to an expected increase in disinformation campaigns and the manipulation of foreign policy information in the context of the upcoming early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria on April 19. The mechanism will be headed by Ambassador Maria Spassova, under the oversight of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velizar Shalamanov.

The working group will conduct centralized monitoring and analysis of disinformation and external interference. It will prepare risk assessments and analyses for the ministry’s leadership, including in relation to organizing voting abroad.
