During an operation by the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) on Monday, four individuals were detained in Bulgaria, with more than €1.2 million in counterfeit banknotes and 1 kg of cocaine seized.
At a briefing today, Acting Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Georgi Kandev announced that the printing facility for the counterfeit currency had been located in Romania, near the border with Bulgaria.
The suspected organizer was also detained in Romania today, bringing the total number of arrests to five - two Bulgarians, two Romanians, and one Italian national.
The investigation into the group began a month ago in cooperation with the Romanian police.
