With
its decision today the Council of Ministers allowed Kozloduy NPP
to import the necessary spare parts from Russia and to receive
technical assistance under specified contracts. The derogation is
valid until the expiration of the terms of these contracts.
The
government explains that the main priority in the operation of the
plant is maintaining the highest level of technical and nuclear
safety.
Since a large part of the systems and equipment are of
Russian origin, some deliveries for the reliable operation of units 5
and 6 need to be made by Russian contractors.
Kozloduy
NPP is the only nuclear power plant in Bulgaria and the largest
electricity producer in the country, providing over a third of the
annual production. The decision comes after the replacement of
Russian membranes with Bulgarian ones, which led to a series of
shutdowns of unit 6 and losses of tens of millions of euros.
