Bulgaria and Greece at the bottom in the EU in terms of purchasing power

In 2025, the gross domestic product per capita in the EU, expressed in purchasing power standards, ranges from 68% of the EU average in Bulgaria and Greece to 239% in Luxembourg, according to provisional estimates by Eurostat cited by the National Statistical Institute.

The EU average level, expressed in purchasing power standards, is around €41,600. Ten countries, representing about 34% of the EU population, are above the average GDP per capita. In addition to Luxembourg, these are Ireland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Malta, and Finland.

A large portion of the remaining countries are close to the average level. France, Cyprus, Italy, the Czech Republic, Spain, and Slovenia are about 10% below it, while Lithuania, Portugal, and Poland are between 10% and 20% below the average.

The lowest GDP per capita is recorded in Bulgaria and Greece - 32% below the EU average.
