Bulgaria’s Consul General in New York, Angel Angelov, presented the country’s history, values and global role at the Rotary Club of New York No. 6, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious clubs, the consulate said.
The event, held in an informal discussion format at the Turkish House, highlighted key moments in Bulgaria’s history, including the founding of the state, the creation of the Cyrillic alphabet and the rescue of nearly 50,000 Jews during World War II.
Angelov also underlined Bulgaria’s role as an active EU and NATO member, its support for Ukraine and its strategic partnership with the United States. He noted the contribution of Bulgarian schools and cultural organizations in the northeastern U.S. in maintaining ties with the diaspora.
The consul general was awarded honorary membership of the Rotary Club.
