The Bulgarian capital is joining the global “Earth Hour” initiative, which this year is observed on March 28.
The main activity with which the Sofia Municipality and WWF Bulgaria will mark the 20th anniversary of the campaign is a large volunteer cleanup of the banks of the Kakach River, which runs through the city’s North Park, the Municipality’s press center announced.

For the anniversary of “Earth Hour,” some of the traffic lights in central Sofia will feature a modified green signal in the shape of a heart.
On Saturday evening, precisely between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., the facade lighting and external spotlights of a number of iconic buildings in Sofia will be switched off.
All residents and visitors of the city can take part in the global initiative by turning off the lights in their homes during the same time interval—from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
