Emmanuel Moutafov elected board member of International Community of Academies

Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) Vice-President Prof. Dr. Emmanuel Moutafov has been elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Community of Academies following a secret ballot by representatives of 42 academies, BAS announced.
Prof. Juan Antonio Mariano Mazzei from the Buenos Aires National Academy of Medicine received the highest number of votes. Prof. Moutafov and Prof. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber from the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in Rome were elected with an equal number of votes following him.
The Board of Directors of the International Community of Academies approves the budget and the development policies, expresses opinions on scientific and cultural matters, and organizes global scientific events. One of the main objectives of the International Community of Academies is the restoration of Plato’s Academy in Athens.
