Bulgaria has extradited two Russian citizens to the United States. Oleg Olshansky and Sergey Ivin are accused of violating US sanctions and money laundering, BGNES reports.
“A note has been sent to the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs calling on Bulgaria to refrain from extraditing Ivin and Olshansky, highlighting human rights concerns and bias against Russians in the United States”, the note as cited by Russian media states.
A Bulgarian court approved their extradition to the U.S., and they were handed over to the American authorities on March 26, 2026. The two men were detained in December 2025 at Sofia Airport at the request of U.S. authorities, who accuse them of violating US sanctions against Russia imposed following the annexation of Crimea in 2014, segabg.com reports. They allegedly took part in a scheme to sell sanctioned metallurgical products worth USD 350 million between 2017 and 2021.
