Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nadezhda Neynsky confirmed Bulgaria’s position that it will support all efforts to open the Strait of Hormuz for free navigation, but will not participate in any military actions to achieve this shared goal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Together with colleagues from more than 40 countries, Minister Neynsky took part in a videoconference meeting organized by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Nadezhda Neynsky expressed full solidarity and support for the Gulf countries and condemned Iran’s attacks against civilian infrastructure and commercial vessels.

The multinational coalition will aim for a “collective mobilization of the full range of diplomatic and economic tools” to ensure a “safe and sustained opening” of the strait. One of these tools could be new economic sanctions against the Iranian regime, Yvette Cooper emphasized.
