Regardless of who drafts the regular budget for 2026, difficult decisions aimed at controlling spending will be required. Otherwise, Bulgaria risks losing its strong fiscal position, said caretaker Finance Minister Georgi Klisurski during a business breakfast organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria.

Klisurski emphasized that drafting and adopting a regular budget is extremely important, as the current financial and fiscal situation is essentially on “autopilot,” while the international environment does not suggest positive developments.

He also stated that Bulgaria is expected to meet all criteria for membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) by the end of the year, expressing hope that the country will officially join the organization at the beginning of 2027.
