The
Bulgarian Farmers Union has sent a letter requesting a meeting with
caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov. They warn that there is a
risk of termination of Bulgaria's membership in Copa-Cogeca, BTA
reports.
The
reason is the lack of opportunities for Bulgarian agricultural
producers to pay membership fees.
The union said that the issue is of
strategic importance for the presence and influence of Bulgarian
agriculture in the EU because Copa-Cogeca is the most influential
representative organization of agricultural producers and
cooperatives in the EU and plays a key role in shaping policies in
the sector. The union pointed out that participation in this
structure provides direct access to decision-making processes at the
European level and the organization has direct communication with the
European Commission and the European Parliament.
