The number of foster families in Bulgaria has fallen by nearly 20% over the past five years, while the number of children placed in their care has declined by about 7%, according to the latest data from the Labour and Social Policy Ministry.

The figures were announced by acting Labour and Social Policy Minister Hasan Ademov at the launch of the Priemi Me (“Take Me In”) campaign, which aims to promote foster care in Bulgaria. The campaign is organised by the Social Assistance Agency and the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

There are currently 1,640 registered foster families in the country, caring for 1,478 children.
