Bulgaria to host Giro d’Italia in a month

A month is left until the start of the Giro d’Italia. Bulgaria is hosting the first three stages of the race. Between May 8 and 10, the best cyclists from around the world will ride over 600 km through the country.

"The upcoming three stages of Giro d’Italia are a great celebration and I call on all Bulgarians to unite and welcome this great event," said Alexander Alexiev, the chairman of the Bulgarian Cycling Federation, at a press conference in BTA. "This is an opportunity to show our natural beauties and that we are capable of organizing a good race," he said, expressing hope that the event will help popularize cycling in the country and will inspire many children to take up cycling seriously. Alexiev also called for the construction of a more adequate infrastructure for cyclists.
